Projekt Typ B

The international joint project "RIO-B" is approved by the European Community under the project no. R6-B3-03**. The abbreviation "RIO-B" stands for "Residuos en Islas Oceánicas - Typo B". It bases on the results of the pre-project Type A, completed in March 2003. For details of that previous work see www.projects-sai.com.

The partners of the RIO-B-Project came from Europe and Latin America:

  • Canton Santa Cruz, Galápagos, Ecuador
  • San Andrés, Colombia
  • Lima, Peru
  • Arucas, Canary Islands, Spain
  • Heidelberg, Germany
  • Karlsruhe, Germany.

Project leader is the City of Karlsruhe.

The runtime of RIO-B-Project is from June 2004 until May 2006.

The archipelago of San Andrés in the Caribbean and especially the Galápagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean are unique biospheres which must be preserved for further generations. Therefore the main focus of the RIO-B-Project is to establish sustainable waste management systems of oceanic islands far away from the mainland.
